Day 123 - BIG Miles

I woke up hungry and concerned. I didn't take time to eat much for dinner last night and still had about 60 miles to go before reaching Crater Lake.

I spoke with my parents a few times throughout the morning, and they could tell I was tired and hungry. Mom reminded me to eat something. They were loving, encouraging, and supportive as always.

I stopped by the Brown Mountain Shelter to scope out the place and grab some water to help wash my breakfast down.

I found some dried coconut flakes in my food bag and fortified my granola with it, giving me the fat boost I was sorely needing and putting my food anxiety to rest.

With some fuel in my belly, I marched on and soon reached a morale boosting landmark.

I walked through terrain unlike anything yet experienced, and the miles started clicking by.

I recognized some old man's beard hanging from the evergreen trees, a sight familiar from my previous trips to the Pacific Northwest.

I felt strong and hiked the most miles I've ever covered in a day, calling it quits shortly after 11 pm.

It was forecasted to start raining by 5:30 am the next morning so I set my alarm early and rolled the dice by sleeping beneath the sky.
